Frequently asked questions
Common questions about Castel from 3G Electric.
What is the maximum pressure differential rating for Castel MA and MD series solenoid valves?
Castel MA and MD series valves are rated to handle a maximum pressure differential of 25 bar. The MS servo-controlled series supports differential pressures up to 30 bar on opening, with a 2 bar differential during modulation. These ratings are suitable for most commercial refrigeration circuits operating at medium to high pressures.
What voltage options are available for Castel solenoid valves in our catalog?
Castel valves are supplied in 24V AC, 24V DC, 110V AC, and 230V AC configurations. Selection depends on local power supply standards and control system architecture. 24V configurations are common in modern control panels, while 110V and 230V are used in legacy installations or where direct-line voltage actuation is preferred.
What connection sizes does Castel offer for refrigeration solenoid valves?
Castel offers 1/8" flare, 6 mm ODF, and 1/4" ODF connections. The smaller 1/8" flare and 6 mm ODF are typical for light-to-medium refrigeration circuits, while 1/4" ODF is used in larger cooling systems and chiller units. ODF fittings are copper-to-tube push-connect; flare connections use standard SAE flare adapters.
Are Castel solenoid valves normally open or normally closed?
Castel MA, MD, and MS series valves supplied through us are normally closed, meaning the valve seat is sealed when de-energized. When electrical power is applied, the solenoid coil lifts the plunger, opening the valve and allowing refrigerant flow. This fail-safe design prevents unintended cooling loss if power is interrupted.
What is the difference between Castel MA, MD, and MS series solenoid valves?
The MA series are direct-acting solenoid valves with simple on-off switching and a 25 bar differential limit. The MD series are pressure differential controllers that regulate flow in response to inlet/outlet pressure imbalance. The MS series are servo-controlled direct-acting valves with modulating capability, allowing proportional flow control and supporting up to 30 bar differential pressure.
Can Castel solenoid valves be used in both AC and DC control circuits?
Yes. Castel manufactures separate AC-rated coils (24V, 110V, 230V AC) and DC-rated coils (24V DC). The coil type determines compatibility with your control system; AC coils will not function properly on DC power and vice versa. Select the coil voltage and type matching your refrigeration control panel or PLC output.
